I’ve been working on this on and off for several months. The concept-based, blank canvas that forms the revised National Curriculum is hugely exciting. This year Digital Geography will be confining itself to just a few themes. The new KS3, compelling IT (especially video), GIS and the vague concept of “authentic learning’ are my priorities.
Below is my fantasy KS3 scheme of work that is very much a work in progress. Unfortunately I’m not really in a position to do very much about actually implementing it in my school, however it’s important to me that it exists in my mind. I’ve included some key links to exemplar materials.

Hi Noel
Love the concept of the ‘fantasy KS3 Scheme of Work’! Can I borrow it ( I will pass it back) for purely professional purposes and point others to it? I would really like to encourage other people to do something similar so that they begin to think about the new KS3 without all the negatives and constraints that hinder free thinking.
Hi Dave. Thanks for your kind remark – I’d be delighted for you to use my scheme for whatever purpose you can think of!
Nice work Noel. Agree with quite a few of the ideas here, and agree also that making use of the RGS schemes makes complete sense given the time that we have available for curriculum making…
Thanks Alan. The RGS schemes are inspirational, particularly the billionaire scheme that I’m teaching (secretly) at the moment!
I’m working on some follow up materials for some of the units I wrote for the RGS – just waiting for copyright clearance before publishing them.
